Le Spighe stands out especially when most of what you find in Italy are pasta/pizza restaurants that somewhat spin around the same flavors and techniques. After a couple of days of having the same you want something completely different and Le Sighe completely fits this bill. It's a pure vegetarian place that provides a rustic, homely and a unique take on some classics such as pasta and casserole. We tried almost everything that was on the lunch menu when we visited and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. There was a pasta with some greens (leak I believe), tofu stir fry-ish dish, potato and leaks garnished with sesame seeds, couscous and cauliflower dish and a red/yellow pepper dish which all were flavorful, healthy (not too oily or cheesy) and filling. We also felt the food had a slight Indian twist to it but we could be wrong on this one. The owner/chef was extremely kind (even though she doesn't speak much English) in helping us with our order. And the place has charm to it that captures you instantly. The food is priced by weight and it might add up to a an above average bill but trust me it's worth it! Do try it out the next time you are in Venice. It's close to the Biennale area.
